We’re all cooped up inside to slow the spread of Covid-19, but life’s milestones still roll around. If you one of your kids has a birthday coming up, here are some fun party ideas to brighten the day while still social distancing.

Host a birthday car parade

Set up balloons and other birthday paraphernalia in your front yard and invite family and friends to drive by to wish the birthday boy or girl all the best. You can play music and games in between visits.

Ask kids to help to help make festive signs and sing happy birthday at the top of your lungs with your guests.

Bear Hunt

Everybody needs good neighbours, especially during Coronavirus! Ask your neighbours to place bears (or other cuddly creatures) in their front window or on their fence for little people to spot. Play the song ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ while you search and bring bear-themed snacks Winnie the Pooh himself would be proud of like Honey Joys or bear claws to match the theme.

If you’re a neighbour, feel free to get creative for kids. Rainbows, fairies and signs are all much appreciated gestures and create a fantastic sense of community spirit.

Zoom costume competition

Brainstorm a theme for a virtual birthday party! It could be the birthday boy/girl’s favourite movie, superheroes, Disney characters, crazy hats or celebrities. Go as big as you want for this one, whatever gets you smiling.

Baby’s first Facetime or kids’ Zoom party

All the love without the hassle of setting up and cleaning the house later. Keep things simple and sweet by setting up a call with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. You could do a big call with everyone on Zoom or just a small one for bub.

This is a great platform for opening gifts so that family can see their happy little faces when they receive their present. You can sing happy birthday, cut the cake and if it’s your baby’s first birthday, watch their face as they taste cake for the first time!

Get up and moving!

Companies like Sky Zone, Bricks 4 Kids and Camp are hosting virtual parties for kids and can be customized to your birthday wishes. These parties have kids up and active as well as making them feel like they got to have a real party. These are a great option if your kids have energy to burn!
