How St Kilda Mums are supporting families all around Victoria

As mums, we all have the maternal instinct to do what's best for our children. Our purpose is to build the nest and care for them in the best way possible, which is why the work of St Kilda Mums remains so important.

It all began with five devoted mums and a purpose to give back to their community. From their humble beginnings in 2009, St Kilda Mums saw the need to provide support to families in troubled circumstances by redistributing high quality, maternal and toddler supplies. They are a non for profit organisation that works in support of the already-existing social services that strive to provide suitable foundations for these families. Their charitable volunteers work as the pillars of their organisation, having mobilised St Kilda Mums and making it the admirable organisation they are today.

“We collect, sort and redistribute essential nursery equipment, clothing, books and toys for babies and school age children.”

What they do

St Kilda Mums respond to the needs of challenged families through the Maternal and Child Health Nurses as well as other social workers. Their team of volunteers work tirelessly to fulfil these orders through other pre-loved donations, in hopes to provide relief for those that need it most. All gifts are packaged with the love and tenderness of their devoted volunteers. They work towards “rehoming, recycling, reusing and repurposing”, which not only provides support to families, but extends to addressing the importance of reducing waste.

Additionally, the organisation also has services that are tailored to provide direct aid to various hospitals within Victoria. Their Safe Start Service endeavours to provide families who have received no prenatal support before birth with the emergency material aid they need.

How can you get involved?

Fortunately, St Kilda Mums have given us plenty of ways to get involved. The best way of which is to donate. The items they need most include, cots, prams, car seats, as well as clothes and other baby essentials. It is a huge priority that all accepted donations are in a sanitary condition. Click here for a more comprehensive list that outlines further information about what donations are accepted. Other ways of contributing include monetary donations and if you are a business, give your surplus inventory. All donations go a long way, providing practical support for those in need.

How are we involved?

As a business that values the care and wellbeing of all babies, big and small, regularly donating our garments to this organisation is extremely important. Our most recent donation of 1,200 garments from the ‘Bigger Birds’ range, which suits babies between 3 months to 18 months. Earlybirds proudly supports St Kilda Mums and their ever-growing commitment to helping our community.

St Kilda Mums is an organisation that is built upon generosity and is sustained by the big hearts of volunteers as well as other supporters all over the state. It’s important to provide support to those in our community who need it most. Their generosity will not go unnoticed and they are truly an inspiration to all mothers around the world. I urge everyone to visit their website and learn more about how to get involved. Even if you cannot donate, there are other ways to support such a charitable cause.
