Babies and toddlers are learning constantly. Everything they see, hear, taste, touch and smell is a learning experience and a way to interact with the world around them.

By playing with everyday household items, your little ones will be developing their fine and gross motor skills, improving sensory awareness, memory skills and enjoying being independent autonomous learners.

Here are our top five super-easy toys for toddlers

  1. Pegs … lots of pegs. When you are hanging out washing, little ones love to sit at your feet and play with pegs. You can also draw faces on them to make mini figurines.

  2. Bubbles - buy a bubble wand and enjoy hours of play time in the sunshine!

  3. Don’t throw out boxes. With a little imagination, these can be made into castles, cars or a boat. You could give your toddler some paints or crayons and let them do the decorating.

  4. Instead of throwing away old clothes, create a dress up box for toddlers to use. The dorkier the clothes the better, this can often yield some hilarious results!

  5. Music - just by playing music in the house your toddler will be learning. Music can help toddlers with numeracy, literacy and make connections between mind and body.

  6. Have a cupboard (or even a box to pull out of a cupboard) in your kitchen where your child can have free reign to sort, stack, bang and experiment with unbreakable items while you cook.
